ABOUT NOMADslow.tv

WHAT IS SLOW TELEVISION?

A train crosses a country.  A ship follows a coastline.  A fire burns.  A landscape changes with the light.
Slow television begins with a simple idea: not everything has to hurry.

Where conventional television compresses time and continually asks for our attention, slow television allows things to unfold.  The journey itself becomes the story.

Its power comes from duration and observation. When we stop demanding that something happen, we begin to notice how much is already happening.

NOMADslow.tv belongs to this tradition, but it also takes it somewhere else, from slow television toward a new form of ambient cinema.

SLOW TELEVISION AS CINEMA

NOMADslow.tv shares slow television’s refusal to rush,
but approaches the form through cinema.

The films are deliberately photographed, composed and edited.
Time is stretched through slow motion. Journeys unfold through montage.
Original music and sound become part of the landscape.

Observation and artistic intervention coexist.
A train can become a meditation on movement.
A city can become rhythm.
An ocean can become time.

The films do not attempt to explain the world.
They create space to experience it.
They can command the room or simply inhabit it.

This is slow television as cinema.

THE NEVER-ENDING MOVIE

NOMADslow.tv is made of individual films, but the channel itself is conceived as one continuous work.
A never-ending movie.

One landscape becomes another.

Winter becomes summer.
Day becomes night.

There is no beginning or end.
There is only NOW.

The journey is the destination.

A WAY OF SEEING

NOMADslow.tv is a deeply personal body of work. Filmmaker and explorer Jason Rodi has made almost every film in the collection himself, and curated the work he has not.

For more than 25 years, Rodi has travelled through the world making films and experiences. Over time, the camera  has become less a way of documenting where he goes than a way of moving through the world.

The subject is travel.  The deeper subject is presence.
What becomes visible when we look longer?
What happens when we stop trying to get somewhere else?

Rodi describes the work as a window onto Heaven on Earth.  Not a heaven somewhere beyond this world. This one.

Light dancing on water.

Wind moving through grass.

Birds making their way home.

ALL IS MIND

As within, so without.

After years spent travelling through the world making the movie, the boundary between documenting life and living inside it has begun to disappear.

The journey becomes the film.

The film becomes the stream.

The stream forever flows.

ALL WE HAVE IS NOW

At the heart of NOMADslow.tv is a simple proposition: presence matters.

Watch closely or barely watch at all.

Listen.  Read.  Write.  Think.  Work.  Dream.  Leave.  Return.  Nothing has been missed.

Sometimes the screen simply becomes part of the room.
Sometimes you suddenly notice something that has been there all along.

NOMADslow.tv does not seize your attention.  It gives you your thoughts back.
Designed not to demand your attention, but to reward it whenever you look.
It’s not escapism.  It is presence.

MUSIC FOR THE EYES

The music of NOMADslow.tv emerges from the same world as the images.
It does not tell you what to feel. It creates space to feel what is already there.

This original music is by ANTENNAE, Jason Rodi’s evolving
ensemble of Montreal musicians, recorded live from the NOMAD studio.

Created through listening, improvisation and atmosphere,
the music can move to the foreground or disappear into the room.

Every full moon, ANTENNAE brings the world of NOMADslow.tv into physical space
through music, projection, silhouettes, movement and light, creating a new collective film every month.

We inhabit the movie.  There is no audience, only participants.
WE ARE ALL ANTENNAE.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF ATTENTION

NOMADslow.tv was not created as wellness content.
But when images stop demanding constant interpretation, attention changes. The mind has more room.

The films can accompany meditation, reading, writing, creative work, rest, or simply being present.

The objective is not necessarily to relax.
It is to become more aware.

NOMADslowTV about.009.jpeg

THE SCREEN AS WINDOW

A screen does not always have to be something we stare at.
It can become a window, a canvas, an atmosphere.

As screens become larger and more present in the spaces where we live, they don’t always need to demand more of our attention. They can change the feeling of a room.

Through screens, projection and immersive installations, distant landscapes can become part of the places we already inhabit.

A wall can open onto the Canadian Rockies.
A room can drift through Japan.
A window can cross a continent by train.

Sometimes the film is the centre of attention. Sometimes it simply changes the atmosphere of the room.
The idea is not to escape where you are. It is to become more present within it.

SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD, RIGHT NOW.

NOMADslow.tv is a continuous live channel.

There is no schedule you need to follow and nothing you need to start from the beginning.

Turn it on and enter wherever the movie happens to be.

Stay for five minutes.  Leave it on all day.  Come back tomorrow and find yourself somewhere else.

ALWAYS ON.  ALWAYS FREE.

THE VISION - Living inside the movie

Filmmaker, explorer and transmedia artist Jason Rodi created NOMADslow.tv as a never-ending movie, a cinematic exploration of our world, time and consciousness, and an ongoing attempt to open windows onto Heaven on Earth.

As founder of Moment Factory, Rodi helped pioneer a new language of immersive experience, but his work has always extended far beyond the screen. From climbing the Seven Summits and skiing to both Poles, to sailing to the most remote island on Earth, he has spent more than 25 years travelling, filming and pursuing a personal myth through art, adventure and discovery.

Over time, the distinction between the journeys and their movies have disappeared. The places become films. The films become music.
And together they flow into a never-ending movie: NOMADslow.tv.

In a media landscape built to compete for every second of our attention, NOMADslow.tv proposes something different. It does not demand that you watch but invites you to look, listen, drift, dream, and live! It gives you your thoughts back.

More than a channel or a collection of films,
NOMADslow.tv is a stream of consciousness flowing through the beauty of our world.
